What Are Antioxidants and Why Do They Matter?

What Are Antioxidants, Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress?

Antioxidants help reduce the effects of cell damage from oxidative stress that is attributable to free radicals.

Free Radicals are naturally formed highly unstable molecules generated when you exercise, when your body converts food into energy, and when you are exposed to environmental conditions, such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, and too much sunlight that contribute to the formation of these free radicals.

Oxidative Stress occurs in your cells when too many free radicals have been generated in your body and this excess oxidative stress actually does damage to your cells. Oxidative Stress and the associated cellular damage it causes are considered contributing factors in the causes of diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimers, Parkinson’s disease, and eye diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

Antioxidant Molecules are known to counteract oxidative stress as shown in multiple laboratory experiments. The bulk of the superfoods Strive uses in its blends, the superfruits, supergreens, superberries, are known to be rich sources of antioxidants. Research has shown that people who eat more fruits and vegetables have significantly reduced risk of having chronic disease, such as those described above.

What the Antioxidants in the Strive Superfoods Blends Do

Some of the most well-known and potent antioxidants are the foundation of the Mojo Risin’ and Buck Naked Greens blends. Acai, Goji, Acerola Cherry, Noni Fruit, Maqui Berry, and over a dozen other superfoods provide the nutritional backbone for mitochondrial function and energy production. Because oxidative damage can cause impair performance, diminish health, and present signs of early aging, these botanical nutrients in our superfoods blends provide powerhouses defenses against oxidative damage. The antioxidant nutrients in our blends:

  • Enhance energy production in every cell of the body
  • Support a balanced inflammatory response in the body
  • Protect against oxidative stress attributable to the environment, detoxification processes, and mental and physical stressors
  • Benefit epigenetic DNA repair and provide protection against future damage
  • Promote healthy metabolic function and weight management efforts
  • Boost NAD+ production, which helps the body and brain resist the effects of chronological aging
